The Hot and Instagram Worthy Spots of Onondaga County

Onondaga County is full of beautiful vineyards, lakes and orchards. Syracuse, while it is home to some fantastic restaurants, does get old! A big part of being a Syracuse University student is exploring the county and making the best of being in upstate New York! This is a list of all the best places to spend a socially distanced and covid-safe day in Onondaga County! These choices were voted on through a poll on the College Corner Instagram!

Beak & Skiff
Beak & Skiff is a Syracuse University fan favorite! Located in Lafayette, Beak & Skiff never disappoints with their spiked cider, loaded bloody marys and cinnamon apple donuts. When the leaves turn, this is one of the most beautiful places to be with friends and take Instagram photos! Each time I have visited Beak & Skiff, I left with a souvenir and great memories. This is a must-see in Onondaga County, but be prepared to wait a while for a place to sit!
Crazy Daisies
Located in Syracuse, Crazy Daisies is a prime Instagram location for Syracuse University students. As soon as the weather gets warmer, people flock in their cutest sundresses and sneakers to Crazy Daisies. While it is not as picturesque as Beak & Skiff and the finger food is not as good, Crazy Daisies remains a student fan favorite.
Green Lake
Green Lake is a must-see Syracuse University student attraction. On a nice and sunny day, the lake is a beautiful turquoise that screams, "post me!" Located in Manlius, only a 20-minute drive from campus, Green Lake is one of the most beautiful places in Onondaga County. The perfect day consists of getting picnic food, putting on a bikini and sitting on the rocks at Green Lake listening to music!
Anyela's Vineyards
Located in beautiful Skaneateles, Anyela's Vineyards is a family-owned establishment that has never seemed to disappoint those to make the 40-minute drive there! Sip on flights of red or white wine while looking down at the beautiful Skaneateles lake. This excursion is one of the more expensive ones, but it seems worth it! I have never gone to Anyela's Vineyards, but I am taking my readers' word and listing this as one of the best hotspots in Onondaga County!

Next time you are feeling stuck on campus, look at this guide and plan your next outing in Onondaga County! Most students do not have a car on campus, especially those who live in dorms, so I partnered with Zipcar for this post to make life a little bit easier for my readers! If you want to get to these places without having to spend a fortune on Uber, use the code "CC" during your Zipcar membership check-out! Next week I will be highlighting the best gyms on campus!

  1. Hi, Julia! This is a great idea for your blog, and what you bring up at the beginning totally resonates with me! You're right, Syracuse can get boring and it's always good to get out to some of these places! Beak & Skiff and Green Lakes are two of my favorite places to go. I'll be sure to check out the other ones soon!

It's also cool that you were able to partner with Zipcar. Good stuff!

Pre-coronavirus there would be swarms of students heading to Water Street Bagel Co., Oh My Darling and Rise N Shine Diner for a morning pick-me-up. COVID is a serious concern for all students and faculty, but that does not mean that we should not be able to eat our breakfast and stay safe at the same time! Here is College Corner's guide to the best and safest breakfast places in Syracuse, NY!  Water Street Bagel Co. While there is no more indoor seating, Water Street Bagel Co. is a coveted breakfast spot for Syracuse University students! It boasts wild cream cheeses such as jalapeno and pumpkin spice as well as a rosemary salt bagel! They are taking coronavirus seriously by not allowing customers to eat in the restaurant. A maximum of four people are allowed in-shop at a time, and you have to order online before coming to pick it up! Water Street Bagel Co. is most definitely a...

Communications is Everywhere: Elizabeth Coburn

On May 5th, I attended a virtual discussion provided by Syracuse University's Fashion Milestone. Elizabeth Coburn, the speaker, is a junior designer at the coveted fashion magazine Teen Vogue. Coburn also graduated from Syracuse University in 2019 with a major in communications design. During college, she was an active member of   University Union and served as the design director and the art director. Before working at Teen Vogue, Elizabeth interned at Refinery29 as a Design Intern. She credits her time here for solidifying her belief that design is what she wanted to do as her profession! Elizabeth has a vital role at Teen Vogue. She works in a small art team that consists of her and two other design staff. She works on graphics to promote events, commissions illustrators for the magazine and Instagram posts. Elizabeth also helps produce photoshoots for the magazine. In the world of fashion, having solid and well-designed social media posts is exceptionally crucial. Elizabeth and...

Speaker Spotlight: Josh Trujillo

In my PRL 215 class, I had the fantastic opportunity to listen to guest speaker Josh Trujillo speak about his career as a senior visual storyteller for none other than Starbucks! Starbucks is a crucial element in my day-to-day life, as I'm sure it is in yours! My first Starbucks drink was a double chocolate chip"venti" frappuccino when I was in middle school; from then on, Starbucks has been my best friend. I am going to extend to you all the key points I gathered from Mr.Trujillo's presentation!    Josh Trujillo is a photographer by trade. He has photographed war, the Pope and has traveled with presidents. After a successful career as a photographer, Josh took his passion and turned it into a beautiful career, sharing some of the stories of Starbucks customers and workers. In an article he wrote for Starbucks titled "Starbucks 2019: The Year in Pictures," he stated that his work with Starbucks Stories centers around the idea of documenting some of the ...
